An Aragonese fortress that seems to float at the harbour mouth.
A fortress on the water
Castello Alfonsino, called the Sea Fort or Red Castle for the colour of its stone at sunset, rises on Sant’Andrea island at the mouth of the port.
History
It was built in the 15th century by Ferdinand I of Aragon and named after his son Alfonso, Duke of Calabria. In the 16th century a connected fort was added.
Visiting
The restored castle periodically hosts events and exhibitions: check openings during your stay.
