An 11th-century round church and a cathedral where an emperor married.
San Giovanni al Sepolcro
Built between the 11th and 12th centuries, this round church echoes the rotunda of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. Inside are medieval frescoes; the portal bears Romanesque carvings.
The Cathedral
Consecrated in 1089 by Pope Urban II and rebuilt in the 18th century after an earthquake, the cathedral hosted in 1225 the wedding of Frederick II and Yolande of Brienne, Queen of Jerusalem.
Piazza Duomo
Nearby stand the Balsamo loggia, the Templars’ portico and the Archaeological Museum: one of Puglia’s most evocative squares.
