Two thousand years of history on Piazza Duomo, including a treasure found in the sea.
The museum
The Francesco Ribezzo Provincial Archaeological Museum holds Messapian, Greek and Roman finds: statues, inscriptions, pottery and traces of daily life in the ancient city.
Bronzes from the sea
In 1992, in the waters of Punta del Serrone north of Brindisi, many fragments of Hellenistic and Roman bronze statues were recovered: one of the Mediterranean’s major underwater finds.
Worth a visit
The museum is on Piazza Duomo beside the cathedral, a natural part of a walk through the centre.
